Wednesday, July 12, 2017   Posted in: Resources and Information By: Administrator With tags: research, young people, Parents

Victoria University of Wellington.Researcher Kate Merson at the Victoria University of Wellington is looking at youth/rangatahi experiences of growing up with a parent/caregiver in prison.

Kate wants to understand more about growing up with an incarcerated parent in New Zealand so that her research can help other young people, teachers, peers, and the wider community understand the experience and improve support service for young people’s needs.

Kate is looking to talk to young people who:

  • grew up with a parent or caregiver in prison;
  • are aged between 17 and 25 years old; and
  • had a parent or caregiver in prison for at least 2 years.

Kate is interested in finding out about your experiences and understand more about:

  • what is was like for you having an incarcerated parent/caregiver;
  • how you coped during the experience;
  • what you found supportive or could have made a difference for you; and
  • the needs of young people/rangatahi who have parents/caregivers in prison.

Contact Kate Merson at the Victoria University of Wellington's Faculty of Education if you would like to participate (mersonkate[at]myvuw.ac.nz or 027 451 8968).

You can also contact Chris Bowden will be supervising Kate's research (04 463 5175 or chris.bowden[at]vuw.ac.nz).
