Chair needed for new Maui Collective

Manawhenua ki Waitaha.Are you interested in chairing the newly established Māui Ora Collective of Canterbury Health System Maori and Pasifika Providers?

Māui will provide a platform to strengthen the capacity and influence of Māori and Pasifika Providers who deliver services for the Canterbury DHB. It replaces the Māori and Pasifika Providers Forum.

The Collective are looking for a suitably experienced Independent Chairperson to bring together members of the Collective so it can provide a:

  • platform to build the capacity and capability of Māori and Pacific Providers;
  • single point of contact for our health system to consult and engage with Māori and Pacific Providers;
  • chance to leverage off of their collective strength in purchasing power in workforce development and capacity building for Providers; and
  • shared vision to improve health outcomes for whānau and Pacific peoples.

The following competencies and perspectives sought from the Independent Chair:

  • Prior governance experience, including acting as chair;
  • High standards of personal integrity;
  • Respected and connected across the Māori community in the Canterbury region and in a position to communicate, receive feedback, influence and lead change within Māori health sector networks;
  • Ability to take a ‘whole system’ health view but also has an understanding of how the system is experienced by people and their whānau;
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills;
  • Strategic thinker and ability to think outside the square;
  • Recognises the value of working in an alliancing framework;
  • Ability to actively contribute and challenge in a group environment and work constructively with groups and perspectives in a team approach; and
  • Ability to prioritise and meet timelines.

It is expected the role will take up to 8 hours per month and the initial appointment will be for 12 months. Limited secretariat support is available. This role is remunerated and a rate will be agreed with the appointee.
