Welcome to the August edition of Chatter and we extend a warm welcome to the folk we have profiled in this edition.

Our team has bid farewell to Karen earlier in the month, but only from our office! Karen has joined the Council’s Communications and Engagement Team based in a different office at the Rangiora Service Centre.

In late July the Waimakariri Community Team was the recipient of the “Carolyn Coggan Safe Community Award” in honour of Dr Carolyn Coggan, founding director of the Safe Community Foundation, who passed away three years ago. The award was made in Wellington on Tuesday 25th July.

We have included winter warming tips, and a reminder about the services provided by Community Energy Action (0800 438 9276 or Local contacts across the District also act as a liaison with the free Curtain Bank.

The Waimakariri Parenting Support and Information Flyer has been updated for Term 3. It is a wonderful resource and for more information about Social Services Waimakariri do read the Independent Chair’s Annual Report for 2016-17.

We have just updated the Waimakariri Volunteer Directory - it is available in hardcopy and along with other useful resources such as “New to Waimakariri?” and the Sports, Hobbies and Recreation Directory, will be posted on the Council website. Do contact us or the Service Centres and Libraries if you want copies.

The Woodend Community Association are holding their AGM on Monday 4th September at 7.30pm at the Woodend Community Centre in School Road. All are welcome and Greg Byrnes from the Tuhaitara Trust is the guest speaker.

Lastly, a reminder about our next Community networking forum – it will be on Tuesday 8th August at the Rangiora Community War Memorial Hall, cnr of High and Albert Streets. We meet from noon to 1pm and provide a cuppa and light snack.

We hope you are keeping warm and dry, and drive to the conditions on the roads.
