Kia ora There is a lot to digest in the news at the moment - both at home in NZ and away.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the extreme weather, and especially to those doing it really tough in Westport right now. We're thinking of you all as you work to clean up your community and homes.

In our last edition, we shared stories on the COVID-19 outbreak in Fiji. This week we're heading across the ditch to hear from Australian correspondent for Newhsub, Emma Cropper about the challenges of being away from home when you're in lockdown. Emma's reflection is a lovely example of how we all need to sit back and imagine ourselves in other's shoes before we jump to conclusions.

We also talk with Dr Api Talemaitoga about ensuring our approach to the vaccination rollout works for everyone.

Both stories serve as a reminder about the importance of fostering empathy and a sense of togetherness, no matter where you are and what your views are. Whether you're a farmer, a city-slicker, an ex-pat, an environmental enthusiast or hesitant to get a vaccination, listening to other viewpoints and being kind benefits everyone.

Not all right?

These new challenges and the loss of our regular routines is causing stress for many of us. This can really erode our wellbeing over time. It’s important to remember to do the little things that help recharge us. It’s also important to know there is someone to talk to and free help available.

It’s all right to reach out if you need to - we all need a bit of support from time-to-time.
