All Right? Digest: March 2023
Kia ora With so many Kiwis doing it tough in the aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle we wanted to reach out, give a little aroha, and share some simple tips to help get through.
In challenging times we can go through a range of emotions, and at our own pace. Feeling like you're all over the place, on edge or a bit overwhelmed are completely normal reactions to a very abnormal situation. So too is needing to get on with things or taking time out for yourself.
Wherever you're at, know that there are simple things we can all do to look after ourselves and others, like sharing a cuppa, taking some deep mindful breaths or checking in with a mate, and these tiny wellbeing breaks can make a huge difference.
As well as some tips and tricks for getting through, in this edition we share some of the science on how disasters affect mental health and learn from March 15 Mosque attack widow Dr Hamimah Ahmat on her reasons for setting up the Sakinah Community Trust and how its Unity Week campaign can help bring Kiwis together.
