Passion projects podcast launched

Wednesday, July 22, 2020   Posted in: Signatory Notice Board By: Administrator With tags: podcast, young people

Selwyn District Council media release: 21st July 2020

Inspiring young people to follow their passions is the goal of the latest initiative from the Selwyn Youth Council.

The Youth Council is launching a podcast series featuring interviews with 14 inspiring Cantabrians talking about their passions, from designing for London and New York fashion weeks to looking after endangered sheep.

Youth Council member Laura Hann says they aimed to make the podcasts a quick burst of inspiration to encourage other young people. “We thought it was good to have young people who have succeeded in their passions to talk about them and how to achieve their goals. They were all really talkative and interesting and a 10 to 15 minute podcast is a really easy thing to listen to on the way to school. We’re hoping people will take inspiration for their hobby, or hear something and think, ‘that sounds interesting I could take that up and look at it further’.”

Their interview with cinematographer John Ross certainly achieved that for Laura - inspiring her to turn her passion for videography into a career.

Episodes will be released weekly starting on Thursday 23rd July 2020 with an interview with Anton Phillipson on the fascinating places his passion for drawing cars has taken him. The podcast will be available on Spotify by searching Selwyn Youth Council Passion Series podcast.

Links to extra resources and information on each week’s topic will also be made available through the Council website and Selwyn Libraries.
