Have your say on a National Physical Activity and Play Plan for Aotearoa
Physical activity and play is fundamental to a healthy society and the wellbeing of New Zealanders. We know play is essential to child brain development, particularly in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, and it supports children to acquire lifelong physical and social skills, language and learning. Creating spaces and opportunities for children to play and be creative is a key outcome of the Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy.
Unfortunately, there are too many New Zealanders, including children and young people, who are missing out on the developmental, health and other benefits that physical activity and play can provide.
Building on the broad sector engagement last year to develop a shared vision for the future of physical activity in New Zealand, government agencies have identified an initial 13 action areas that they could focus on to start bringing this ‘preferred future’ for physical activity in New Zealand to life.
Now is your chance to have your say on the areas that can have the biggest impact on increasing rates of participation in physical activity and play, particularly for those who are currently missing out.
The National Physical Activity and Play Plan for Aotearoa survey is now open. The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete.
This survey is being run by the Child Wellbeing and Poverty Reduction Group of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
