Multicultural cooking class series returns to Waimakariri
Waimakariri District Council media release: 23rd July 2024
Looking for ideas to tantalise your taste buds? Want to learn to cook different and interesting dishes from other cultures? Waimakariri’s Multicultural Cooking Class series is back for another year and there is plenty on offer!
The Council has joined Global Locals of Waimakariri (GLOW) to host eight cooking classes every Wednesday night from 7th August to 25th September 2024 at Kaiapoi High School.
The classes are run by residents who either want to share their favourite home-style dishes from their countries of origin, or by New Zealand born locals who enjoy embracing other cultures. There is a smorgasbord of cuisines to choose from including Israeli, Persian, Dutch, Filipino, Mexican, South African, Chinese and French.
Audrey Dragovich, who leads GLOW, said the idea for the cooking class series started in 2019 and has proven to be popular ever since.
“Feedback has always been terrific, and the majority of people say they love the opportunity of doing it hands on rather than a demonstration, because they learn more from it.
“Our aim is to encourage those that come to gain skills and become more open minded about other cultures. I personally love to ask the question as to what the norm is for eating breakfast in your homeland. That’s always fascinating, especially from Asian cultures.”
