Senior Chef: Free cooking classes for older adults
Do you know older people who are:
- struggling to cook for themselves;
- losing motivation to cook;
- lonely; or
- socially isolated?
Senior Chef is a FREE 8-week cooking course for people over 60 (or 55 for Maori and Pasifika) needing to increase, confidence or motivation to cook for themselves. The course aims to prevent malnutrition and improve quality of life for older Cantabrians.
Malnutrition can lead to poor healing, repeated illnesses, more hospital admissions, longer hospital stays and greater transfer rates from home to residential care.
Enrolments are now being taken for this popular course in 2019
Senior Chef courses will be starting in Term 1 2019 in the following locations:
- Avonhead - Tuesdays starting on 29th January;
- Linwood - Wednesdays starting on 30th January;
- St Albans - Fridays starting on 1st February; and
- Ashburton - Thursdays starting on 21st February.
Classes will also be held in Kaiapoi and Oxford (details to be confirmed).
Your doctor, practice nurse or other health professional can make a referral for Senior Chef. You can also enrol directly yourself.
