OrianaTV: Free to air TV for Pacific communities

Wednesday, May 6, 2020   Posted in: Resources and Information By: Administrator With tags: pacific, culture, information

Have you ever wondered what it would be like for Pacific communities in New Zealand to have our very own free-to-air Pacific TV platform in New Zealand - featuring our families, our people and our communities? That is the vision of Oriana TV.

Oriana TV continues its developmental phase and broadcasts programmes of interest to our Pacific communities on Channel 200 on Freeview: every Sunday from 3pm to midnight on Channel 200 on Freeview and repeated the following Wednesday from 3pm to midnight.

You can also see the broadcast streamed live on the OrianaTV website.

Featured programmes on OrianaTV include:

  • Please Blow My Mind: Will Fleming is the host this top #10 iTunes podcast which involves mind-blowing-deep long-form conversations.
  • Arts Extra is a special segment that looks at Pacific artists and their work.
  • Through Their Eyes is hosted by journalist Daniela Maoate-Cox and looks at our Pacific homelands through the eyes of our tourists.
  • Cooking Hawaiian Style has almost become a 'foodie movement'. Host Lanai Tabura brings in a well-known personality or featured chef on each episode, to show how it's done 'Hawaiian-style'.
  • Praise & Worship starts the broadcast like all Pacific gatherings. Talented singers and worship teams from around the Pacific are featured in this important half-hour programme. Let us worship.
  • Andrea Lusila Presents: Pacific musical acts each week with Australian music journalist Andrea Lusila.
  • Who Runs The World: Martha Samasoni has been involved in the NZ music scene since the 1980s. She features Pacific female artists from around the region in this programme - making it very clear 'who is in charge'.
