Tap into real-time updates with Selwyn’s new water outage map
Selwyn District Council media release: 29th July 2025
We’ve just made it easier for Selwyn residents and businesses to stay informed during water outages, with the launch of our new interactive water outage map.
This easy-to-use map provides real-time updates on both planned and unplanned outages, sharing key details such as affected areas, estimated duration, and the cause (when known).
Whether you’re at home, running a business, or managing a busy household, you’ll now have the information you need, right when you need it.
Council’s Water Asset and Management Workstream Lead, Elaine McLaren says this new service is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to improve systems and customer experience.
“We will be able to share updates with our community as they happen so people can easily check the status of their water services and plan with greater certainty” she says.
Until now, the Council’s water outage notifications have been largely manual, meaning delays in communication were sometimes unavoidable.
The new digital tool changes that. With just a few clicks, you can now:
- Check the current status of water services in your area;
- View estimated restoration times and known causes; and
- Get timely updates as situations evolve.
“For our water services and emergency response teams, it also means better outage management and faster, more accurate reporting,” says McLaren. “Automating updates reduces call volumes and allows staff to focus on resolving issues more efficiently.”
We want our community to feel confident that when there’s a change to water service, they will be the first to know, no more guessing, no more waiting.
