Recreation and sport fee changes
Christchurch City Council Newsline: 1st September 2026
Christchurch City Council is updating fees and charges across its recreation and sport facilities from 1st October 2026.
Changes apply to casual entries, multi-visit passes and memberships from 1 October 2026. Price updates for space hire (including courts, rooms and pools), Swimsmart memberships and term-based programmes will take effect from 4th January 2027. The lane hire community rate will remain unchanged.
Membership fees, where users can enjoy unlimited access across all of our Recreation and Sport centres depending on their membership type, are increasing slightly:
- Gym, Pool and Gym & Pool memberships are increasing by $1 per week.
- Pool memberships for children are increasing by $0.20 per week.
- Swimsmart learn to swim memberships will change from Term 1 2027.
A small increase will apply to casual entries, including swim, slide, gym and group fitness classes, ranging from $0.10 to $0.50 across our products:
- Adult pool entries are increasing by $0.20 and child pool entries by $0.10.
- Under-fives and Pay to Play activities increase by $0.10.
To support continued participation in recreation and sport beyond high school, the Council is introducing a new lower-cost casual pool entry option for tertiary students. The tertiary student rate will be available on presentation of a valid student ID from New Zealand tertiary education providers, including universities, polytechnics and wānanga.
Existing support for the community will continue, with a 30% discount available for Community Services Card, Student, SuperGold and Hāpai Access card holders. Hāpai Access card holders will also continue to receive a 50% discount on selected casual entry products.
