Volunteers needed for digestive health research
Do you struggle with chronic diarrhoea? If you are aged 18 or over and have chronic diarrhoea or diarrhoea-predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), you may be eligible to participate in a University of Otago research study.
Researchers are investigating bile acid malabsorption (BAM) - a treatable cause of chronic diarrhoea. They are looking for people who are willing to try a bile acid medication (cholestyramine) for 14 days to help us understand how common BAM is in New Zealand.
Being part of the research involves 21 days of total participation, including:
- Taking medication for 14 days;
- Completing daily symptom diaries; and
- Attending two blood tests and two clinic visits.
