Pay My Park app trial extended

Christchurch City Council’s parking app trial has been extended until the end of 2021.
The trial of the Pay My Park app was initially scheduled to run for 12 months. However, due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Council has decided to extend the length of the trial.
“Last year was anything but business as usual because of the changing COVID-19 alert levels. In order to gain a more comprehensive picture of how the app is performing and how much it is being used, we are going to give the trial more time,’’ says Michael Healy, Manager of Smart Christchurch, which is supporting the trial.
“The data we have so far is encouraging and shows that the number of people using Pay My Park is steadily increasing at an average rate of 20 percent per month.’’
The Pay My Park app allows people to pay for on-street metered parking throughout the city centre using their smart phone or mobile device. People can choose to pay per session as a casual user, or they can set up an account.
Mayor Lianne Dalziel says she is a fan of the Pay My Park app because it makes paying for central city parking quick and easy.
“I live and work in the central city so I walk most places, but when I do have to take my car somewhere, I always use Pay My Park to pay for my parking.
“I love that it is easy to use, you don’t need to have cash on you, and that you can extend your parking stay remotely rather than having to rush back to put money in a meter,’’ the Mayor says.
