Tennyson Street Rolleston Drive intersection upgrade
Selwyn District Councll media release: 10th January 2022
Major upgrades to the Tennyson Street/ Rolleston Drive intersection will begin in the new year to install traffic signals at the intersection and other upgrades.
This work will require some temporary road closures and one-way lanes while the work is completed.
From Monday 10th January 2022:
- Rolleston Drive will be one-way westbound. The one-way restrictions will be in place until these upgrades are completed, which is expected to be in late April, weather permitting.
- Tennyson Street will be closed either side of the intersection for five weeks.
This section will be open to a one-way system southbound (towards Lincoln) from mid-February - weather permitting.
From Sunday 16th January 2022:
- The intersection will be closed from 9pm to 6am daily for about two weeks.
Signed detours will be in place and temporary safe access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained throughout works. Temporary bus stops will be in place on Rolleston Drive and Lowes Road for the affected bus stops for the 820, 85 and 5 bus routes.
The upgrade will also include a new lane layout with right hand turning traffic lanes and cycle lanes, linking to the pathways recently installed to the north on Tennyson Street, along with signal crossings for bicycles and for pedestrians.
Rolleston Drive - west of Tennyson Street as far as the Rolleston Community Centre - will be upgraded to improve access to the future Rolleston town centre.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out this work.
