Free sessions on disability law: Know your rights
Come along to this series of FREE sessions exploring disability law to help people with disabilities, older adults and their whānau to know their rights.
All sessions will be at the Braintree Wellness Centre (70 Langdons Road, Papanui).
These sessions are organised by Aspire Canterbury, the Disabled Persons Assembly NZ (DPA) and the Waitaha Enabling Good Lives Regional Leadership Group (WRLG).
Tenancy and Housing
Adele Tikao from Community Law Canterbury will cover your rights as a Kainga Ora tenant, how to raise concerns, navigating the complaints process, and support or advocacy services and agencies available.

Reasonable Accommodations
Learn out about your rights around reasonable accommodations, how you might want to approach requesting accommodations, and what you can do if the answer is “no”.

Education
Find out about strategies for advocacy on behalf of your disabled child and what schools can and can’t do when it comes to enrolment or discipline.

Supported Decision Making /PPPR
Who Decides? – Planning for your child’s future. How can your child be supported to make their own decisions as they get older? Who will make the decisions for your adult child if they are not able?
Date: Friday 30th October 2026.
Time: 1 to 3pm.
The session will cover:
- Legal capacity and supported decision making.
- Enduring Powers of Attorney.
- Welfare Guardianship and Property Management under the PPPR Act.
