Upskill your teenager at the upcoming Safer Young Driver Day
Safer Young Driver Days are half-day courses designed to give young drivers the opportunity to learn and develop defensive driving skills that can't be taught on public roads, with the aim of keeping them and other road users safer on our roads.
Date: Saturday 20th June 2026.
Time: 10am to 2.30pm.
Location: Air Force Museum (Harvard Avenue, Hornby).
Cost: $150 plus booking fee per person. A parent or caregiver can attend with a paying student FREE OF CHARGE.
The course is subsidised for Selwyn residents and endorsed by the Selwyn District Council Road Safety Team.
Students will participate in a number of practical workshops led by qualified driving instructors and will be behind the wheel of their own car to learn, experience and practice these skills, including:
- Emergency braking and avoidance;
- Eyes Up control and steering; and
- Following distance and spatial awareness.
There will be demonstrations and facilitated discussions looking at a range of things with both the vehicle and the individual that help keep us safe on the roads.
This course is ideally best suited to young drivers who have already obtained their Restricted License, however Learner drivers who have at least 30 hours of driving should be capable of this course. Young drivers on their Full license are also welcome to attend.
