Christchurch City Council Newsline: 25th August 2025

As October’s local election approaches, voters can now find information about their candidates online.

The Christchurch City Council has today published candidate profile statements and photos on its website.

The information is supplied by each candidate and is published online as it was submitted. This information will also be included with voting documents.

Eight people are contesting Christchurch’s mayoralty this election, while 40 people are standing for Council seats and 70 people will contest the Community Board positions.

All candidates have also been offered the opportunity to film a short video about themselves, answering election-related questions.

The videos have been filmed on Council premises and will be published on the Council website in the first week of September.

Election Officer Warwick Lampp said candidate videos were offered to Christchurch candidates for the first time this election.

“We are pleased that voters will have the opportunity to view a video of their candidates this election, as well as the standard photo and written profiles. The intention of the videos is to give voters as much information about the candidates as possible.”
